Silver Mountain Ski Resort is a 19 minute gondola ride away from Kellogg, located along I-90 in the middle of northern Idaho's Silver Valley. Silver Mountain covers 1500 acres of terrain ranging from beginner to advanced expert (double black diamond), and is famous for its champagne powder and short lift lines. The longest run is 2.5 miles long and intermediate, with a vertical drop of 2200 feet. The Wardner Peak Hike and Ski Area offers a unique experience for the adventurous expert.A dozen miles east on the Interstate is the historic town of Wallace, and another dozen miles takes you to Lookout Pass Ski Area on the Montana border, and several backcountry areas filled with alpine lakes for the cross-country skiing enthusiast. |

| As usual, Snowfall statistics for the 2007/08 season will be collected for both Silver Mountain and Lookout Pass. See the summaries below for comparison with previous six years. For a taste of what is possible at Silver Mountain, see the photos taken in March of 1997. Or better still, read my ecstatic commentary on 253 powder runs made during the truly magical 1998/99 season, when the last Silver Saturday was on May 1 with a 108" base at the Lodge and 216" still at the Summit. | |||||
